Mayfair
Most of Mayfair’s homes were constructed between 1913 and 1930, and since architects and builders stuck with a narrow definition of a bungalow, its streets lined with brick bungalows have a much more cohesive look than in some other parts of Chicago. The homes attracted an ethnically diverse group of immigrants and the children of immigrants who were both blue-collar and middle-class white-collar buyers. In 1929, neighbors formed the North Mayfair Improvement Association.
The community is a popular destination for new families or Chicagoans buying their first home. With serene, neighborhood streets, residents enjoy the feeling of life away from the city without sacrificing the convenience or proximity to everything Chicago has to offer.
